Fellow Nigerians,
It is with great joy and a deep sense of patriotism that I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating Democracy Day 2026, a day that reminds us of our collective commitment to freedom, justice, national unity, and democratic governance.
Today, we pay tribute to the heroes and heroines who made sacrifices for the democracy we enjoy. Their courage and determination continue to inspire us to build a nation where every citizen can contribute meaningfully to national development.
As we reflect on our democratic journey, it is important to acknowledge that Nigeria is currently undergoing critical reforms under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. While these reforms may present temporary challenges, Nigerians should not lose faith in the process. The history of great nations teaches us that meaningful progress often requires patience, resilience, and sacrifice.
The administration’s economic policies and institutional reforms are aimed at building a more stable, productive, and prosperous Nigeria. Citizens should remain hopeful and supportive, knowing that the goal is to create a stronger economy capable of providing greater opportunities for present and future generations.
The fight against insecurity also deserves the support and cooperation of all Nigerians. The government and security agencies continue to work tirelessly to safeguard lives and property, while strengthening the nation’s security architecture. Peace and security remain indispensable to national growth, investment, education, sports development, and overall progress.
As Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Sports (NIS), I am particularly encouraged by the growing recognition of sports as a powerful tool for youth empowerment, national unity, economic growth, and international diplomacy. Sports have continued to unite Nigerians across ethnic, religious, and political divides, demonstrating the strength of our shared national identity.
The Nigerian Institute of Sports remains committed to developing world-class athletes, coaches, sports administrators, and technical personnel who will contribute to Nigeria’s sporting excellence and national development. We believe that investment in sports is an investment in the future of our youth and the future of our country.
As our democracy continues to mature, we must harness the immense potential of sports to promote peace, create jobs, discover talents, reduce social vices, and project a positive image of Nigeria to the global community. With the support of the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders, the sports sector can become a major driver of national development and economic diversification.
On this Democracy Day, I urge all Nigerians to remain united, law-abiding, and committed to the ideals of democracy. Let us continue to support efforts aimed at building a stronger, safer, and more prosperous nation.
I pray that Almighty God grants President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the wisdom and strength to continue leading Nigeria on the path of progress. May God bless our armed forces and security agencies as they work to keep our nation safe. May He also bless our athletes, sports administrators, and the entire sporting community with success and excellence.
Above all, may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria with enduring peace, unity, stability, and prosperity. May our democracy continue to flourish, and may our nation achieve greater heights under the current administration.
