Shaibu Commends President Tinubu Over Massive Sports Infrastructure Revamp Nationwide

The Director-General/CEO of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Rt. Hon. Comdr. Philip Shaibu, has commended President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what he described as an unprecedented nationwide revamp of Nigeria's sports infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking on the wave of federal projects currently underway, the Director-General noted that the rehabilitation and re-equipping of stadia, training centres and academies across the six geopolitical zones is positioning Nigeria to host major international competitions and, more importantly, to prepare home-based athletes to world standard.

He highlighted ongoing upgrades at the National Stadium Complex, the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, and several state-owned venues being brought up to FIFA, World Athletics and IOC technical benchmarks. The DG emphasised that improved venues translate directly into better learning environments for NIS students on coaching, paramedics and sports administration pathways.

"This is the most ambitious investment in our sports infrastructure in a generation," Shaibu said. "It tells our young athletes that the federal government believes in them, and it gives our coaches and sports scientists the platform they need to do world-class work."

The Director-General reaffirmed the Institute's commitment to aligning its Ten-Year Strategic Plan with the federal infrastructure programme, ensuring that human-capital development at NIS keeps pace with the new and renovated facilities being delivered nationwide.
