LASEMA, NIS to Collaborate on Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Management
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has expressed its desire to collaborate with the National Institute for Sports on emergency preparedness and disaster management.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has formally expressed its desire to collaborate with the National Institute for Sports (NIS) on emergency preparedness, mass-event safety and disaster management.
During a courtesy visit to the Institute, the LASEMA leadership outlined plans for a joint working framework covering venue risk assessment for major sporting events, on-site medical response protocols, evacuation drills and shared continuing-education programmes for first responders.
The Director-General of NIS welcomed the proposal, noting that the Institute's Paramedics Technology and Sports Medicine units are uniquely placed to support LASEMA on event-day medical cover, athlete and spectator safety, and the training of stadium response teams.
Under the proposed Memorandum of Understanding, NIS and LASEMA will jointly develop a national curriculum module for sporting-event emergency response, with practical components delivered at the National Stadium Complex and at LASEMA's response command centres.
Both parties affirmed that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to keeping athletes, officials and spectators safe at every public event — and to building a pipeline of well-trained sports paramedics and safety officers for the wider Nigerian sports ecosystem.
